Sustainable Waste Management in Jaipur: A Comprehensive Approach

The challenge of growing solid waste in Jaipur, mirroring problems across South Asia, demands urgent attention. With inadequate waste management, increasing amounts of waste are contributing to environmental degradation and climate change. Recognising the gap between the intentions and actions of local organisations, I propose a multi-faceted solution:

1. Institutional Change (ACC: Audit, Consult, Certify): Conduct comprehensive waste audits for institutions, assessing their waste generation and disposal. Offer tailored consultancy to implement waste reduction strategies. Certify organisations that adopt recommended practices, enhancing their brand value and encouraging wider adoption.

2. Social change: Engage employees, workers, family members and students as waste champions. Disseminate waste management knowledge through community-led initiatives. Promote a culture of responsible waste management in homes and communities, creating a ripple effect of sustainable practices.

3. Access to waste management infrastructure: Provide institutions and waste champions with access to my network of green vendors, waste management equipment suppliers and resources. Equip them with guidelines, infographics, posters and a waste management playbook to help them implement effective waste management solutions.

The project envisions a holistic transformation by aligning institutions, individuals and resources towards responsible waste management. The sustainability of the project is ensured through a charging mechanism for certification services, ensuring continued growth and impact.
