Alumni show their favourite places in Germany

Modern cities, magical landscapes, places of stillness or great enjoyment: As part of our photo competition “My favourite place in Germany”, we asked Germany-Alumni to tell us about the places that they grew to love and appreciate in Germany, and to upload photos of their favourite places to the Alumniportal’s online community. We are happy to present a selection of these photos in a picture gallery.

These favourite places are spread out over the entire country – from Saxon Switzerland in the east to the Rhine, from Hamburg in the north to the Starnberger See in Bavaria. Berlin was mentioned as a favourite place several times, not least because of its many sights – and the photo by Isabella Gomez from the US shows that Berlin has many nearby green spots, like Naturpark Barnim, for example.

Hung Tien Pham from Vietnam remembers his favourite place from his days as a student in Leipzig. Natasa Nedovic from Serbia has uploaded a photo that shows a breathtaking view of Stuttgart and the vineyards of the Neckar valley. Hani Ali Muhsen from Jordania captured one of the numerous open air events that Munich has to offer in the summer.

Whether it’s autumn in Cologne or winter in Garmisch-Partenkirchen – let us take you on a journey across Germany!

Starnberger See is such a big lake that you could think that you are by the ocean! There can be no better time to take a dip than summer. We weren't actually going to throw ourselves in, but a local grandpa and his granddaughter had dived in earlier and told us it felt like 10 degrees. But it was freezing cold, and he joked later that he may have omitted the word “minus”. I guess that is what life means to the locals. Living it up and making even the smallest moments count. My favourite place in Germany

What experiences Germany-Alumni may have made during their stay in Germany depends on a number of factors. Some alumni studied or did research at a German university; others may have worked or participated in a language course in Germany. Sometimes they share similar experiences, but there are very personal memories, too. We have collected some stories in which Germany-Alumni tell us what they associate with their favourite place in Germany.
